Philanthropy and Charity have always fascinated me. For one thing, I always wondered how philanthropists do what they do. And charities always make me wonder how people manage it. It takes way more work than we are aware of. I think the most important charities are those that save the children and those that save animals. Take Today’s Promises. Their goal is to bring empowerment, education, food, shelter, love, and hope to the impoverished children of Haiti. I should know something about this since the doctors I work for go there every year to volunteer their services for the people of Haiti. Be it surgery or just simple medical care.
Haiti – Save the children
Haiti is part of the Caribbean Islands. It is still recovering from a 2010 earthquake, a 7.0 Mw. Hundreds of thousands of people are thought to be dead. Over 300,000 injured and another 300,000 lost their homes. Haiti has been one of the world’s poorest countries and many of its children are orphans and about 380,000 live in orphanages or group homes.
Today’s Promises Foundation was started to continue the initial work after the 2010 earthquake. the first phase of the mission was to support the children in the orphanage. Their promise was to feed, educate, shelter, and provide whatever else needed for a positive change.
How you can help?
There are so many charities that need help especially now where fundraisers are not possible. Well here is how you can help with this one. You can sponsor a child for example. For children, it is a long term commitment. As they grow especially in an impoverished situation it is hard to keep their heads up and knowing that they will get what they need as they grow up helps tremendously.
You can also get your children involved as in Kids helping kids. They can do book drives to provide all that for the children of Haiti since they have none to read or games to play. They can also think of some fundraising ideas. Contact us for suggestions. you can also buy a bracelet or just got to Haiti, which at this moment the above suggestions might be safer.
